Social Recreation
The Social Recreation Program provides opportunities for individuals with disabilities to participate in a variety of recreational type activities. The program is structured into Saturday Recreation, Social Recreation and Vacation Recreation.
Saturday Recreation
This program is designed to provide respite for family members who continue to provide supervision and care for their loved one in their home. The program typically meets on two Saturdays a month from 11am to 3 pm. Participants are given a variety of supervised activities to choose from including crafts, games and movies, as well as participation in various community events. Lunch is always provided and there is typically no cost to the individual. Participants must be dropped off and picked up at the designated times. Transportation to events is provided.
Social Recreation
This program provides supervised access to community events weekdays during the evening hours. Events have included dining out, movies, bingo, bowling, crafts, area theatre productions, St. Bonaventure sporting events and a variety of other activities. Space is limited and participants are required to sign up in advance. The participant is required to pay the fee assigned to the events prior to participation. Transportation is provided for those in the Olean/Allegany/Portville/Salamanca populated areas. All others will need to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Vacation Recreation
This program provides an opportunity for individuals to go on supervised vacations to various destinations within the United States. Recent trips have included Orlando; American Music Theatre; Lancaster, PA; Darien Lake; Niagara Falls and Hershey Park. Space is limited and participants are required to sign up in advance. The participant is required to pay the fee assigned to the vacation prior to participation. Participants must be dropped off and picked up at the designated times.
Eligibility
To participate, individuals to be served must have a diagnosis of a developmental disability or mental retardation. The program must be able to meet each individual’s medical, supervisory and behavioral needs. Participants in Saturday Recreation must be still living at home with family members.
