our values

ReHab Center president and CEO Jim Bellanca first introduced agency staff members to the concept of a "core set of values" which would define our agency's work culture in a column printed in the staff newsletter in June 1999. Values existed in the agency in an informal way, and Jim saw an opportunity to formalize them and bring them into the forefront for all employees to share a common set of ideals.

These values were: Positivity, Integrity, Learning, Loyalty, Respect and Results-Orientation. Over the course of months and even years, these values have been studied and ingrained into nearly everything The ReHab Center does.

In 2007, a review of these values took place involving the agency's senior administrators and program directors. It was determined that Positivity, Integrity, Learning, Loyalty, and Respect would be retained, while Results-Orientation would become Accountability and a new value called Innovation would be added.

"In today's world of non-profits being held even more accountable by funding sources, it seemed appropriate to have a core-value of 'Accountability,'" Jim said. "Additionally, to survive and thrive in the future, we must think of new ways to do things and not just continue doing them because 'that's the way we've always done them.' That is a message that I made clear to all staff: they are encouraged to come up with ways to make us even more efficient and effective in serving people with disabilities. Thus, we created the value of Innovation."

The values have been reinforced consistently and are now part of the very fabric that makes up The ReHabilitation Center.
